Dr Maria Montessori says, “The greatest gifts we can give our children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence.”
We are happy to welcome our children back to the Montessori environment, where we explore the adventure of learning through fun and interactive sessions. Montessori team @omega is thrilled to have you with us after a long summer break.
Eagerly waiting to see the little ones getting active from now on. Make sure you stay tuned with Montessori @ Omega
Montessori at HIS Omega
At Heartfulness International School, Omega Branch, Chennai, Montessori education comes alive through a carefully prepared environment where children are encouraged to choose meaningful work, explore through their hands, practise through repetition and develop concentration and independence.
Here, learning is not limited to listening to an adult or completing a set task. Children learn through doing, observing, exploring and discovering. Each experience gives the child an opportunity to build understanding at their own pace while developing the confidence to do more for themselves.
At HIS Omega, our Montessori programme is for children from 2.5 to 6 years, with children learning together in mixed-age environments. The environment, the Montessori materials and the guidance of the facilitator come together to support each child’s journey of learning and development.
In simple words:
We prepare the environment.
We show the child how.
The child explores, practises and discovers.
A child’s day is filled with purposeful work, discovery and growing independence.
A Montessori day is not about one activity for the entire class at the same time. Children may be working on different activities according to their interests, developmental needs and readiness. One child may be working with Practical Life activity. Another may be working with a Sensorial material. Another may be reading or writing, while another is exploring Mathematics. This is what makes a Montessori environment a place of purposeful choice and independent work.
Our five key areas of learning come together to support the development of the whole child.
Exercise of Practical Life : Learning through purposeful everyday activities
Practical Life is one of the first areas children encounter in Montessori. It includes activities that are connected to everyday life—such as pouring, transferring, folding, arranging, caring for the environment and caring for oneself. But these activities are about much more than learning a practical skill. As children work with their hands, they develop:
Coordination • Concentration • Independence • Order • Confidence
Watch the children at work.
Sensorial : Discovering the world through the senses
Children experience the world through seeing, touching, hearing, smelling and tasting. Montessori Sensorial materials give children opportunities to explore these experiences in a clear and organised way. A child may compare size, shape, colour, texture, sound or dimension and gradually learn to notice small differences. Through this work, children develop the ability to observe, compare, classify and make distinctions.
Language From sounds and words to reading and writing
Language in Montessori develops through a sequence of experiences.
Children first build their listening and speaking skills. They then explore sounds, vocabulary, letters, reading and writing through hands-on activities.
Rather than simply memorising letters and words, children have opportunities to see, hear, touch, speak, read and write.
Watch language come alive.
Mathematics Making mathematics something children can see and touch
For a young child, numbers are not just symbols on a worksheet. Montessori Mathematics begins with concrete experiences. Children work with materials that allow them to physically explore quantity, number, place value and mathematical operations before gradually moving towards more abstract understanding. This helps children build mathematical concepts step by step.
Watch mathematics in action.
Culture Understanding the world around us
Montessori Culture introduces children to the world beyond their immediate surroundings. Through experiences related to nature, science, geography, history and the wider world, children begin to ask questions and make connections.
Culture nurtures a child’s natural curiosity:
“What is this?”
“Where does it come from?”
“Why does this happen?”
“How are we connected to the world around us?”
Watch curiosity unfold.
The Montessori Environment
Where learning happens
The environment plays an important role in Montessori education.
Materials are carefully arranged so that children can see, access, use and return them independently.
The environment provides opportunities for movement, choice, repetition and concentration.
Children learn not only from the materials, but also from the people around them and from caring for their shared environment.
At HIS Omega, our Montessori environments bring together mixed-age groups of children from 2.5 to 6 years, creating opportunities for children to learn alongside and from one another.
What Is the Role of the Montessori Facilitator?
Observe. Guide. Present. Step back.
The Montessori facilitator is not constantly directing the whole group.
Instead, the facilitator carefully observes the children and understands their individual needs and readiness.
A presentation is given when a child is ready to be introduced to a particular material or activity. The child is then given the opportunity to practise independently.
The adult’s role is to prepare, observe, guide and support—while giving the child space to discover.
A Parent’s View of Montessori
What happens when you pause and observe?
We believe parents understand Montessori best when they have the opportunity to experience the environment themselves.
During Parent Observation Week, parents stepped into a Montessori environment different from their child’s, taking time to observe the work, interactions and rhythm of the classroom from a new perspective.
PARENT TESTIMONIAL
Dear Preetha Mam ,
I am writing to express my deepest gratitude to the school and the Montessori team as my twins complete their early schooling years.
When I was searching for a play school/Pre-KG program for my children, I was desperately looking for a place that practiced the true Montessori method—a philosophy I had read about in books and followed closely online. Enrolling my twins at Heartfulness International School has been one of the best decisions I have made for them. From the moment we first stepped onto your campus, with its sprawling grounds, trees, plants, and pond, we felt it was the perfect environment for them to enjoy learning.
During the orientation program, I felt completely reassured that I had chosen the right place. The first day of school is naturally challenging for young children and equally stressful for parents, but the gentle way your team handled the transition gave us immense confidence and peace of mind.
Over the past three years, I have seen the Montessori principle of "freedom within boundaries" lived out every day. The environment allowed my twins to learn naturally from their peer group faster and quicker. Every teacher showed remarkable care, adapted to each child’s learning style, and kept us consistently informed. Most importantly to me as a parent, there was never any shaming—only empathy, patience, and genuine care.
Though my twins have different learning paces—one being a fast learner and the other taking a bit more time—the teachers handled them individually with tailored guidance. The confidence and positive habits they carry today are a direct result of this Montessori practice. Honestly, now that they are in CBSE, I think I miss the Montessori setup even more than my kids do!
I would like to extend a special thanks to:
Durga Mam: Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your dedication and passion. You have truly shaped Adhu and Badhu with your full attention, and you have made the Zulu team exceptional in so many ways.
Seetha Mam, Aparna Mam, and Shobana Mam: Thank you for your constant guidance, patience, and support for my twins throughout these years.
Thank you once again for creating such a nurturing foundation for my children.
"Proud to have had my twins be part of the Zulian spirit!"
Aparna Rajesh Kumar

Buzzing trip to VGP Marine Kingdom!
Our M2 Montessori kiddos just had the most fantabulous day ever at VGP Marine Kingdom, Chennai! Imagine little explorers, wide-eyed, jaws dropped, swimming (okay, walking) through an ocean of fishy wonders! From neon-bright fishes to the “Whoa, is that a real shark?!” moments – they were hooked from the start!
The fun didn’t stop with the fish. Oh no! There was a super-duper lunch party that brought kids together for some serious munching (and giggling) with their friends and teachers.
The cherry on top? Our little champs even bonded with children from other environments. or should we say, making waves in the friendship pool?
Major salute to our amazing facilitators, the ever smiling and supportive support staff, and the reliable bus Anna’s for driving us safely up and down cheerfully.
It was a whale of a day filled with smiles, teamwork, and just the right splash of craziness!

Independence Day celebrations at our Montessori Wing
It all started with an email to prepare their child, based on the child’s area of interest to be a part of the celebrations which went on for about a week. Children had prepared beautifully and came forward to perform amidst their peers in their environments.
They sang patriotic songs, recited famous poems about the freedom struggle, gave speech about Independence Day, some children even expressed their creativity through wonderful drawings and paintings which were put up in the events board in each environment.
These participations brought them out of their nutshell and helped them prepare themselves for the greater audience in the future.
