INDIGO HEARTFUL KIDS
Frequently Asked Questions for Parents
Supporting Children with Differential Learning Needs
Every Child Can Shine
Indigo is not about labelling children. It is about understanding them.
Indigo is a part of the CBSE stream of Heartfulness International School–Omega. It is designed to provide the academic, developmental and emotional support required by children with differential learning needs within an inclusive and nurturing school environment.
Our objective is not to label or brand any child. We believe that a learning difficulty does not define a child. Our focus is on understanding each child's individual learning profile, strengthening their abilities, addressing areas of difficulty and optimizing their potential.
We aspire to help every child become a confident, happy and increasingly independent learner, while ensuring that the child experiences dignity, acceptance and belonging within the school community.
1. About Indigo & Our Philosophy
Indigo Heartful Kids is an inclusive stream of Heartfulness International School–Omega designed to support students with differential learning needs through an individualized, strength-based and multisensory approach.
Indigo supports children who experience significant difficulty learning in a conventional classroom environment and may benefit from individualized academic, emotional and learning support.
Differential learning needs refer to the different ways in which children may learn, process information, communicate, focus or demonstrate their understanding. Each child's learning profile is unique.
A formal diagnosis may be helpful, but admission decisions are based on understanding the child's overall learning profile, strengths, needs and ability to benefit from the Indigo environment. The school may recommend appropriate assessments where required.
Indigo provides support for children with specific learning difficulties and other differential learning needs. The programme can support learners experiencing challenges with literacy, numeracy, attention, focus, processing, self-regulation and related areas.
2. Admission & Eligibility
Indigo currently supports students from Grades I to VII.
The admission process begins with understanding the child's individual learning profile and determining whether the Indigo environment and level of support are appropriate for the child.
The school reviews the application and relevant academic or developmental information. Depending on the child's needs, an interaction and/or assessment may be conducted before determining the appropriate placement.
Parents may be asked to provide the child's previous school reports, assessment reports, diagnosis or professional recommendations, and other relevant educational information.
Yes. The child's previous curriculum is considered as part of understanding the learner's academic level and learning needs. Placement is determined based on the child's readiness and individual learning profile.
Yes. Indigo follows individualized progression rather than expecting every child to progress at exactly the same pace. The focus is on identifying the child's current level and building the skills needed for further learning.
3. Curriculum & Teaching
Indigo is a part of the CBSE stream of Heartfulness International School–Omega. Its educational approach integrates the requirements of the school curriculum with individualized, multisensory and experiential methods suited to diverse learners.
Yes. Core academic areas are taught while adapting the teaching process to the learner's level, strengths and learning needs.
No. Indigo is a schooling programme, not simply a remedial centre. Academic learning is combined with social-emotional development, life skills, experiential learning, inquiry, communication, creativity, physical activities and opportunities for independence.
Yes. Individualized learning goals are developed using baseline assessments, strength-based profiling, personal learning goals and ongoing progress monitoring.
The child does not have to be taught every subject at the same level. Instruction can be adapted according to the child's demonstrated competency and specific learning needs.
No. Indigo places emphasis on conceptual understanding, mastery, application and meaningful real-life learning rather than rote memorisation.
Learning may involve visual, auditory, kinaesthetic, tactile and experiential approaches. Clay modelling, manipulatives, movement, role-play, visualisation and real-life experiences can be incorporated into learning.
4. Individualised Support & Assessment
Indigo's individualized learning process includes setting goals based on each learner's strengths, needs, learning profile and current level of functioning.
Progress is monitored through diagnostic and formative assessments, mastery checks, portfolios, competency-based tasks and ongoing classroom observation.
Learning goals and classroom strategies are reviewed continuously and adjusted according to the child's progress and changing needs.
Indigo combines classroom-based learning with individualized support. The level of individual assistance depends on the child's specific learning requirements rather than providing one-to-one teaching throughout the entire school day.
The child's learning plan can identify specific areas requiring additional intervention, practice or remedial support.
Indigo Heartful Kids is designed to provide an immersive learning experience within a regular school setting. Our approach focuses on understanding and addressing each child’s individual learning needs through appropriate classroom strategies, personalised support and an inclusive learning environment. Indigo has never been intended to function as a special school or a therapy centre providing specialised occupational or speech therapy sessions during school hours. Our objective is to ensure that children receive the academic, emotional and developmental support they need without being isolated, labelled or made to feel different from their peers. Where a child requires specialised therapeutic intervention, parents may be advised to seek support from qualified professionals outside the school, based on the child’s individual needs.
5. Emotional Well-being & Building Confidence
Yes. Emotional regulation, self-awareness, confidence, responsibility, relationship skills and independence are important parts of the Indigo approach.
Indigo follows a strength-based approach that aims to help children experience success, recognize their abilities and gradually develop confidence and independence.
The emphasis is on individual progress and mastery rather than comparing one child with another. Learning goals are adapted to the child's starting point and developmental needs.
These foundational learning behaviours are addressed as part of the learning process. Strategies may include structured routines, focus-building activities, movement, individualized support and self-regulation practices.
6. Progress, Independence & Transition to Mainstream
Not necessarily. Indigo believes that children should be supported according to their changing needs and potential. If a child demonstrates significant improvement, successfully bridges the relevant academic gaps and has no significant behavioural concerns for a sustained period of at least six months, the parents will be counselled regarding the possibility of transitioning to a mainstream school.
Yes, where the child's progress indicates that a transition may be appropriate. Parents may then choose to apply to the mainstream school of their choice. Admission to the mainstream school will be subject to the child's performance in the entrance/selection process and availability of seats in that school.
Independence is one of Indigo's important goals. Support is provided not simply to help a child complete a task, but to help the child learn how to approach the task independently. We progressively develop skills such as self-regulation, organization, problem-solving, communication, decision-making and learning strategies.
Previous academic performance does not define a child's potential. Indigo seeks to understand why the child has struggled and what barriers have affected learning. We then work from the child's current level, build foundational skills and create opportunities for success.
Children do not all learn at the same pace. Indigo provides individualized progression so that a child can work towards meaningful learning goals without constantly experiencing the pressure of comparison with peers.
7. Parents, Communication & Future Pathways
Parent collaboration is an important part of the Indigo model. Parents are involved in understanding goals, reviewing progress and supporting appropriate learning strategies at home.
Yes. Progress is monitored continuously and shared with parents as part of the individualized learning process.
Yes. Parent collaboration and communication form an important part of the Indigo approach.
No. Indigo's philosophy is not to label or brand children. Indigo is a part of the CBSE stream of Heartfulness International School–Omega and provides support based on the child's individual learning needs. The School Transfer Certificate will not mention 'Special Needs.' We believe that a learning difficulty does not define a child. Our focus is on identifying strengths, addressing areas of difficulty, optimizing potential and helping every child become a confident and happy learner.
Our aim is exactly the opposite. Indigo provides an inclusive and nurturing environment where children are accepted for who they are and supported according to their individual needs. We want children to experience success, belonging, confidence and joy in learning rather than feel defined by their difficulties.
Indigo seeks to understand what the child knows and where the difficulty lies. Differentiated and multisensory teaching approaches are used to strengthen conceptual understanding as well as the child's ability to communicate learning.
A child's academic performance does not always reflect ability or potential. Indigo looks beyond marks to understand the child's learning profile, processing patterns, strengths and areas of difficulty, and works towards removing barriers to learning.
School refusal or resistance to learning can sometimes be a response to repeated experiences of difficulty, failure, anxiety or lack of understanding. Indigo seeks to understand the underlying reason and works through appropriate academic and emotional support to rebuild confidence, trust and willingness to learn.
Through observation, assessment, classroom experiences, projects, activities and interactions, the school identifies areas of competence, interests and preferred ways of learning. These strengths are incorporated into the learning process to help the child experience success and develop a positive sense of self.
The child's progress, abilities, learning needs and future educational goals should be reviewed before the next stage. The school can guide parents regarding the most appropriate educational pathway based on the student's individual profile.
Yes. Indigo includes opportunities for art, music, movement, sports, experiential activities, inquiry, presentations, projects and life-skills development.
